Sporting was disappointed that the Arbitration Council (CA) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) did not consider errors in the match between Rio Ave and FC Porto in the third round of the I Liga.
“It is with disappointment that Sporting Clube de Portugal takes note of the lack of communication from the CA regarding the gross errors of the refereeing team that led the match between Rio Ave and FC Porto,” read a statement from the ‘leões’.
In the note, without specifying what the mistakes were, Sporting believes that “both refereeing teams were vociferously wrong both on and off the field, clearly harming Rio Ave and favoring FC Porto”.
Sporting recalls the assumption of an error made by the CA of the FPF during Sporting’s victory over Casa Pia, where the video referee (VAR) misplaced the offside lines and incorrectly validated the first goal for the ‘lions’.
For the club from Lisbon “that was to be expected […] the board came to see the mistakes, regretted what had happened and took action”, “but in this case simply chose to do nothing”.
“The foul size line is measured by the evidence of them and the impact they have. The consequence of a technical foul or gross error of judgment is the same for sporting truth,” the club says.
The ‘lions’ also believe that ‘errors of omission, especially of the VAR, are as serious or more serious than errors of action’, ‘as well as those of the AC, who did not intervene quickly and decided to ‘whistle’ to the judge . side “.
