Pepa will be temporarily replaced by Fernando Seabra and Vinícius Rovaris, whose new coach will be announced in the coming days.
After 21 championship days, Cruzeiro is in 12th place, with 25 points, only four above the relegation zone.
El Zorro, as the club is known, has not won in seven matches in the Brasileirão, with the 3-0 loss at Grêmio being Pepa’s last game.
This was Pepa’s second experience outside of Portugal, after last season with Saudi Al-Tai.
Before, the 42-year-old coach passed through, among others, Moreirense, Tondela, Paços de Ferreira and Vitória SC.
