Sports Court opens case against Rubiales for serious violations

The decision of the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) follows a complaint from the Spanish government, through the Supreme Council of Sport, that the kiss of Luis Rubiales to footballer Jenni Hermoso and the behavior of the president of the federation on the bench denounced. stadium in Sydney, when he touched his own genitals to celebrate Spain’s victory in the World Cup final.

Friday’s decision by the TAD, quoted by the Spanish media, translates into the partial acceptance of the complaint filed by the Spanish government and thus launches proceedings to punish Luis Rubiales for two offenses against decorum.

The Spanish government also wanted Rubiales’ behavior to be considered an abuse of authority by the TAD, which is not included in the court’s decision, preventing the Supreme Sports Council from revocating the provisional suspension of Rubiales from the presidency of the Royal Spanish football federation. (RFEF).

The prosecution of Rubiales by TAD for serious violations could, according to the Spanish media, lead to the suspension of the president of the federation for a period of one month to two years.

Luis Rubiales has already been suspended for 90 days by FIFA for events in Sydney, during the match and at the celebration of the Spanish victory.

After the TAD’s decision was announced today, Spain’s Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, lamented that the court had considered Rubiales’ behavior to be serious offenses and not “very serious” as the government intended.

Miquel Iceta said at a press conference in Barcelona that the Supreme Council of Sport was therefore unable to suspend Rubales, but he will urge the TAD to implement this measure until the disciplinary process now under way is completed.

The minister stressed that the government remains of the opinion that “the actions of the RFEF president deserve to be described as very serious, abuse of authority and damage to the image of ‘Spanish football’ in the context of celebrating the wonderful victory” by the women’s team.

“When the eyes of the world were on the Spanish players, some events have caused damage that is difficult to repair to our sport and our image as a country,” he added, saying that the government is studying other possible legal action against Rubiales .

Following the events in Sydney, Rubiales was subject to numerous criticisms, with player Jenni Hermoso stating that she had not consented to the kiss, contrary to what the RFEF president guarantees.

Rubiales said last week he would not be leaving his post, triggering a new spike in contention and extreme positions, with the squad’s players announcing they are unavailable to return to represent Spain, while the current leaders of the RFEF stay in position. the positions.

On Saturday, FIFA announced Rubiales’ suspension for 90 days, and 11 members of coach Jorge Vilda’s technical team resigned. For his part, the technician condemned the “inappropriate behavior” of the RFEF chairman.
