VAR error. FC Porto denies FPF: ‘No power failures have been detected’

Futebol Clube do Porto on Monday denied the Arbitration Council of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) over the incidents with the VAR system in Sunday’s match against Arouca.

The blue and white refer to this in a statement on the club’s website the version presented by the FPF “does not correspond to the truth” and that no power failure ever occurred into the wall outlet to which the VAR monitor was connected. “This socket has a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) power supply”, FC Porto argues.

“In addition to the UPS, the outlet itself has a specific key that ensures it is used only for the VAR system,” the statement read.

But Porto’s argument goes further: “It also does not correspond to the truth that the socket in question is the only one available in the inspection room of the stadium. In addition, there is another electrical panel with another socket available for use” .

After the VAR system went down during Sunday’s FC Porto-Arouca, the Arbitration Board publicly stated that there had been a power failure at the stadium during the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw. In view of this, FC Porto now says: “No power failures were detected during the game (before, during or after the game)”.

“In this regard, it should be noted that FC Porto’s obligation ends with the provision of a power source so that technicians from Altice, hired by the FPF, can connect the power cable destined for the VAR equipment there, which has been done, and all responsibility for mounting the system and connecting the cables is a matter for professionals,” said the club.

The statement – which is divided into eight points – further explains that “said cableconnected at source to the stadium’s power supply, supplied by FC Porto, was not connected to the VAR equipment, which has left the system running on batteries since the start of the game”This fact,” FC Porto now says, “was recognized by the technicians themselves when they replaced the equipment, because this past was supported by the energy of the stadium”.

“The conclusion is elementary: the Altice cable of the first VAR equipment, connected at the source to the power source of the stadium, was never connected to the VAR equipment at the destination due to a technical error,” the dragons conclude .
