The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, number one in the world, qualified this Monday for the quarterfinals of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the season, by beating the Italian Matteo Arnaldi in only three sets.
Winner of the New York ‘major’ last year, Alcaraz got the 61st place in the world ranking by 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, in a match that lasted one hour and 59 minutes, in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Alcaraz, 21, is looking for his third Grand Slam title in the United States, after winning the US Open last year and Wimbledon this year, and in the quarterfinals he will face the winner of the match between the German Alexander Zverev, 12th in the world, and Italian Jannik Sinner, sixth in the hierarchy.
