Panamanian international footballer Gilberto Hernández was shot dead by unknown persons in the town of Colón, on Panama’s Caribbean coast, local police announced Monday, who have arrested a suspect.
The 26-year-old Atletico Independiente defender, capped twice by Panama, was hit by shots fired from a car aimed at the group the player was in, injuring other people.
According to Deputy Commissioner Hermogenes Argüelles, in charge of local police, authorities revealed that they had “arrested a person” suspected of involvement in this murder, without giving further details.
“Club Atlético Independiente Panama mourns the death of our player. We are united in the pain of our children, family and friends. Fly high, leader and two-time champion,” the Panamanian club wrote on social networks.
