“Inter Milan is pleased to announce that it has extended the contract of Simone Inzaghi, who will remain as coach until 2025,” read a brief note from the Milanese shield.
Inzaghi, 47, led the club to the Champions League final last season, losing to Manchester City (1-0), which became European champions for the first time.
In the quarterfinals, the Italians eliminated Benfica, with a 2-0 win at the Estádio da Luz and a 3-3 draw at the San Siro.
This season, Inter Milan and Benfica meet again in the ‘Champions’, but in the group stage, in a team that also includes the Austrians from Salzburg and the Spanish from Real Sociedad.
The matches between Inter and Benfica are scheduled for October 3, in Milan, and November 29, in Lisbon.
