Portugal was crowned three-time European table tennis champion due to Down syndrome

Portugal has been crowned European team table tennis champions for the third time in a row at the SUDS continental championships for athletes with Down syndrome, a competition in which I won eight medals in swimming on Tuesday.

In table tennis, the quartet consisting of João Soldado Gonçalves, João Oliveira, João Miguel Gonçalves and Pedro Azevedo scored a full record of league wins, beating Turkey 3-1, Italy and the Czech Republic, both 3-0. and became team champion for the third time in a row.

In swimming, Portugal won eight medals and a world record, three of them gold, won by Vicente Pereira (100 m freestyle), João Vaz (200 breaststroke) and Diana Torres (200 butterfly).

Silver medals were won by Diogo Matos and Matilde Gaspar in the 200 breaststroke, and also by Filipe Santos in the 200 butterfly, while Filipa Reis (400 styles) and Diogo Rego (50 backstroke) won bronze.

In futsal, Portugal came out on top, beating Turkey, the current champions of Europe, 2-1, while the national team drew their Irish counterpart in the futdown.

In the 4×4 basketball tournament, Portugal lost 34-19 to Finland.

The European SUDS Championships (Sports Union for Athletes with Down Syndrome) brings together 514 athletes from 21 countries competing in eight sports.

Portugal is represented by 48 athletes, competing in six sports: athletics, 4×4 basketball, futsal, judo, swimming and table tennis.
