For the first time Portugal plays the semifinals of the European Women’s Basketball Championship

The Portuguese women’s 3×3 basketball team qualified this Thursday for the first time for the semifinals of the European Championship, beating France 13-7 in the quarterfinals in Jerusalem.

The ‘quinas’ team, which is participating for the second time in a row in the competition, had already achieved the best historical classification in the European 3×3 by reaching the ‘quarters’ on Wednesday, after finishing in second place in Group C, just behind Lithuania.

Against the French team, number one in the European ranking, the Portuguese team, 22nd in the ranking, prevailed 13-7 and secured one of the top four places in the competition, still disputing access to the final on Thursday , against the Netherlands, starting at 5:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. in Lisbon).

In the clash with the French, Laura Ferreira, with five points and six rebounds, Emília Ferreira, with seven rebounds and two points, and Márcia da Costa, with four points and as many rebounds, stood out in the Portuguese team, which also had Joana Soeiro signs two points.

Hortense Limouzin, with four points and as many rebounds, and Miriam Djekundade, with one point and four rebounds, were the best valued of the team that held the trophy and record holder of victories, with four in seven editions.

Despite never having won the competition, the Netherlands was a finalist twice, including the last edition: third in 2017 and fourth in 2014 and 2019; he was only outside the top four in 2016 and 2021.

The final and the match for third place will also be played this Thursday, starting at 9:55 p.m. (7:55 p.m.) and 8:55 p.m. (6:55 p.m.), respectively.
