“I can’t continue with my work.” Rubiales announces his departure from the Spanish Football Federation

The suspended president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, announced that he will resign from his position in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.

“I’m going to do it because I can’t continue with my job,” revealed Rubiales, suspended by FIFA after the controversial kiss with Jenni Hermoso, after the final of the Women’s World Cup, which according to the player was not consensual and led to the filing of a formal complaint. .

The leader says that he made the decision after speaking with his father and his daughters, who he claims knew that this decision “has nothing to do” with him: “They tell me that I have to focus on my dignity and moving on with my life. “

Rubiales assures that he has had to “endure a lot in these three weeks” and that he made the decision not to think only of himself: “In this situation, it was the smartest thing.”

Last Friday, the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office presented a complaint against Luis Rubiales to the National Court requesting an investigation for the crimes of sexual assault and coercion.

It is about the kiss on the mouth that Rubiales gave to the player Jenni Hermoso, after the end of the Women’s Soccer World Cup, which Spain won with a victory against England (1-0), on August 20, in Sydney, Australia.

The Prosecutor’s Office considers that this action by Luis Rubiales was not consensual and, therefore, could constitute a crime of sexual assault and another of coercion against Jenni Hermoso, which is why it asks the Court to open proceedings against the director.

The position of the Public Ministry against Luís Rubiales occurs after Jenni Hermoso formalized a complaint with the State Attorney General’s Office. The player, contrary to what the manager claims, guarantees that the kiss was not consensual.

Before the kiss, in the stands of the stadium, Rubiales had touched his genitals to celebrate the Spanish victory.

The two behaviors earned him complaints from the Spanish government before the Sports Administrative Court, which decided to open a disciplinary file against Rubiales, and the suspension by FIFA of the position of president of the RFEF for 90 days.

The events in Sydney were followed by numerous criticisms of Rubiales, who said he would not abandon his position, which caused a new peak of protests and extreme positions, with the national team’s players announcing that they were not available to represent Spain again. as long as the current directors of the RFEF remain in their positions.

Eleven members of the women’s coach Jorge Vilda’s coaching staff resigned.

For his part, the coach, who condemned the “inappropriate behavior” of the president of the RFEF, was fired from his position this Tuesday by the Spanish federation, after criticism from various sectors for having applauded the speech in which Rubiales said that he did not would resign and that she was being a victim of persecution by “false feminism.”
