Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was grateful to win the trophy for the first time, with Portugal beating Spain 6-2 in the final, in a match in which they lost by two goals.

“On behalf of Portugal and the Portuguese, the President of the Republic congratulates and thanks the players, the technical team and the Portuguese Football Federation, another achievement that greatly honors the national sport,” he stressed.

In Porec, Croatia, the ‘quinas’ team conceded two goals from Pol Salas (five and six minutes), but managed to equalize before half time with goals from Lúcio Rocha (10) and Andriy (20).

In the second half, an own goal by Pol Salas (27) gave Portugal its first lead, which was extended by Tomás Colaço (36), Lúcio Rocha (37) and Pedro Santos (39).

Portugal, which was a losing finalist in the last edition and had already defeated the Spaniards in the group stage, secured the trophy against the team that had won both editions of the competition.
