The Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes, congratulated the Portuguese under-19 futsal team, which today was proclaimed European champion for the first time in the category, stating that it is a “historic moment.”
“Parabens to the U-19 team for the conquest of the first European title! A group with great talent, dedication and that promises several joys for our country. A historic moment”, refers to the cabinet of the minister, who has the past of sports, a message in his social networks.
Portugal reached the title after beating Spain 6-2 in the final, in a match in which they lost by two goals.
In Porec, Croatia, the ‘quinas’ conceded two goals from Pol Salas (five and six minutes), but managed to tie before the break, with goals from Lúcio Rocha (10) and Andriy (20).
In the second half, an own goal by Pol Salas (27) gave Portugal the first lead, which was expanded by Tomás Colaço (36), Lúcio Rocha (37) and Pedro Santos (39).
Portugal, which had been the losing finalist in the last edition and had already beaten the Spanish in the group stage, secured the trophy against the team that had won both editions of the competition.
