Portuguese international center Neemias Queta was released from the North American Basketball League (NBA) by the Sacramento Kings, the team announced on Wednesday, leaving the player free to decide his future.
“The team announces that Nerlens Noel and Neemias Queta have been released today,” the Kings said in a statement, recalling the Portuguese midfielder’s journey in his two seasons with the Sacramento team.
Neemias Queta was on a two-way contract for the past two seasons, allowing him to be used in the Sacramento Kings games in the NBA, as well as in the games of the secondary team, the Stockton Kings, in the Development League (G-League).
In August of this year, the center signed a “standard contract” with the Kings, but has now been released and becomes a free agent, allowing him to sign for any other team to continue his career, in the NBA or not.
The 24-year-old forward was selected 39th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2021 NBA draft, becoming the first Portuguese player to play in the league.
In his first two seasons in the NBA, Neemias Queta appeared in 20 games for the Sacramento team. The post was most used by the Stockton Kings, for whom he played 43 games last season, averaging 17.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 shot tackles per game.
His strong performances in the G-League earned the Portuguese player second place in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) voting in the regular season, behind baseman Carlik Jones.
