Portuguese international Bernardo Silva, of Manchester City, is among twelve nominees for the ‘Best’ award, which is presented by FIFA to the best player of the year, the body that oversees world football announced on Thursday.

The 29-year-old midfielder will compete for the prize with teammates Julián Álvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Rodri, all European champions with British club Ilkay Gundogan, who also won the Champions League before moving to Barcelona, Marcelo Brozovic (Al Nassr), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen (Naples), Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint Germain), Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) and Declan Rice (Arsenal).
Voting is open to the public until October 6, with 2022 winner Argentinian Lionel Messi set to appear again among those elected.
