Vuelta: Remco Evenepoel wins for the third time, Kuss is more leader

Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) achieved his third victory in the 78th Tour of Spain this Thursday, by winning the 18th stage after more than 150 kilometers of running, while North American Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) held on kept the red jersey.

The reigning Vuelta champion and leader of the mountains classification took part in the day’s breakaway and ultimately isolated himself from his fellow travelers. He was the first to complete the 178.9 kilometers between Pola de Allande and the top of La Cruz from Linares, with a time of 04:47.37. Also from the breakaway, the Italian Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious) came second, at 04.44 minutes, and the Dane Andreas Kron (Lotto Dstny) third, at 05.10.

Sepp Kuss crossed the line 09.29 minutes behind Evenepoel and even gained nine seconds on Jonas Vingegaard, with the Dane working for his North American teammate and holding on to second place, but now 17. Slovenian Primoz Roglic completes the Jumbo-Visma trio men in the Vuelta podium, 01.08 minutes away, the difference with which he will start on Friday for the 177.5 essentially flat kilometers between La Bañeza and Íscar.
