Portuguese footballer Pedro Neto, from Wolverhampton, will miss the Qatar World Cup after an ankle injury that requires surgery, the English club reported on its website on Friday.
“After further assessment and expert judgment this week, he will be operated on. This means that unfortunately, [Pedro Neto] will not be fit for the next World Cup”Wolves’ medical team says.
22-year-old striker Pedro Neto injured his left ankle in Saturday’s loss to West Ham (2-0) when he strained his lateral ligaments, forcing him to be replaced by Adama Traoré after 24 minutes.
The worst-case scenario for the Portugal international, who was out for nine months in January following a serious injury, was confirmed by the need for surgery, which means that he will not be part of Fernando Santos’ options for the World Cup in Qatar.
