The Boston Celtics announced the signing of Neemias Queta on Tuesday. The Portuguese international signed a ‘two-way’ contract with the Boston team, which means he will split between the team that plays in the NBA and the Maine Celtics, from the G-League.
“Welcome,” the Eastern Conference team wrote on social media, making official the signing of the 24-year-old Portuguese center, who has worn the Sacramento Kings jersey for the past two seasons.
“The Boston Celtics announced today that the team has signed Neemias Queta to a ‘two-way contract’. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.”reads the Boston team’s statement.

News of Neemias Queta’s departure to the Celtics was reported this weekend by journalist Shams Charania of The Athtletic.
In August of this year, the center signed a “standard contract” with the Kings, but was eventually released and became a free agent, allowing him to sign for another team to continue his career, as is the case now.
Selected by the Sacramento Kings at 39th overall in the 2021 draft, he became the first Portuguese to play in the NBA.
In his first two seasons in the NBA, Neemias Queta appeared in 20 games for the Sacramento team. The post was most used by the Stockton Kings, for whom he played 43 games last season, averaging 17.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 shot tackles per game.
Strong performances in the G-League earned the Portuguese player second place in the regular-season Most Valuable Player (MVP) voting, behind baseman Carlik Jones
Quetão, as Neemias Queta Barbosa is known, is living the American dream. At the age of 19, he went to the US in 2018 on a university scholarship. He made his living in college competition, always with the NBA on the horizon, where he ultimately entered the 2021 draft.
In 2019, he opened his heart to DN and confessed that “he would like to be a player with great potential in the NBA and reach the hall of fame.”
