Cavinato tests positive on an anti-doping test and leaves Sporting

Diego Cavinato tested positive on an anti-doping test and terminated his contract with Sporting. It was the 38-year-old Italian-Brazilian winger himself who explained what happened on his social networks, saying that he was taking a “metabolism accelerating medication to lose some of the weight gained from the break”, after suffering a head injury had contracted in training, where he made sure he was unaware that it contained a substance banned by ADoP.

Despite expressing regret over the matter, the club announced that “both parties had reached an amicable contractual termination agreement” and expressed “solidarity” with Cavinato.

Through a long message on the social network Instagram, the indoor football player assumed that everything was due to a mistake made in a “childish” way and that the substance detected was present in a drug he took to lose weight. “Last June, and after more than a week off, caused by a head injury during training, and without any bad faith on my part, I took a drug that speeds up metabolism to lose some of the weight I gained from quitting. I did this with a clear conscience and without thinking that it contained a substance banned by the Anti-Doping Authority and, unfortunately, without consulting a health professional. That mistake cost me a positive check after dozens and dozens throughout my career without ever having any problems. An unintentional mistake on my part has led to a possible penalty, which will lead to a break that I hope will be short-lived, but which will make my participation in the sport unviable in the medium term,” lamented the Brazilian.

Among the many apologies, including to Sporting, the club he represented in 341 matches (he scored 340 goals), the player also left a guarantee: ‘I am the same Cavinato as always. I just made a mistake in the most innocent and childish way a person could make. A mistake for which I will have to pay.’
