Coach Julian Nagelsmann is the new German football coach, succeeding the dismissed Hansi Flick, and will lead the team in the final phase of Euro2024, which will take place on German soil, the local federation (DFB) announced today.
In a note on the official website, the organization confirmed the arrival of the 36-year-old coach, who has been without a club since leaving Bayern Munich midway through last season, and announced that Nagelsmann had signed a contract until July. 2024.
“We have a European Championship in our own country. This is something special, it is something that happens every few decades. We want to make it a great tournament in our own country. I am very happy to take on this challenge.”said Julian Nagelsmann in statements from the DFB.
On September 10, Hansi Flick was removed from the position of German coach, which he had held since 2021, after losing to Japan (4-1) in a friendly match and having achieved only three wins in the last 15 matches.
Julian Nagelsmann’s debut is scheduled for October 14 in a friendly against the United States on North American soil. Three days later the Germans face Mexico, also in a friendly match, in Philadelphia.
