The Portuguese-Brazilian Galeno was recognized as the best footballer of the opening day of the group stage of the Champions League, after scoring two goals and an assist in the victorious debut of FC Porto, UEFA announced this Friday.
Through a vote carried out by fans during the last few days on the organization’s official website, the 25-year-old forward defeated the Portuguese international João Félix, from FC Barcelona – who is the next rival of the Dragons in Group H -, by the English Jude Bellingham, from Real Madrid, and the Norwegian Martin Odegaard, from Arsenal.
Galeno stood out in FC Porto’s victory over Shakhtar Donetsk (3-1), played on Tuesday, in Hamburg, Germany, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, scoring two goals and assisting Iranian Mehdi Taremi’s goal in the first half .
The dragons share the leadership of the polola with the Spanish champion FC Barcelona, who defeated Belgian Antwerp on the same day (5-0), with two goals and an assist from João Félix, and visits Sérgio Conceição’s team on October 4, in the second round .
Conceição praises the evolution
