FC Porto (winner of the last two editions) starts the defense of the Portuguese Cup in Vilar de Perdizes, a team from Trás-os-Montes that participates in the Portuguese championship. The draw for the third round, held today at Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, also dictated the trip of Benfica, record holder for trophies (26), to the home of Lusitânia, in the fourth tier of Portuguese football.
In a round where I Liga clubs are forced to play away from the so-called big three, Sporting is the one who will have the smoothest journey as they will play with Olivais and Moscavide. The Lisbon team is one of three district teams still in competition – along with Atlético da Malveira and Santa Maria.
Sp. Braga, the finalist defeated in 2022-2023, will face Rebordosa, of the Portuguese Championship, while Boavista will face Oliveirense, of the II League, and Gil Vicente will visit the historic Belenenses.
In addition to the 18 clubs from the I League, the competition also has 15 teams from the II League (Paços de Ferreira fell in the second round, against December 1, which visits Tondela), eight from League 3, 20 from the Portuguese Championship and three from the districts.
