In the hard court tournament in Kazakhstan, the current 86th in the ATP hierarchy needed almost three hours to win 5-7, 7-6 (8-6) and 6-4, over the wild card player, who occupies the position 246. position in the ranking.
Since Roland Garros, the second major of the season, the Portuguese tennis player has not triumphed in the main ATP tournaments.
In the next round, Borges will face the winner of the match between the Australian Alexei Popyrin and the North American Sebastian Korda.
