Roma, thrashed by Mourinho in Genoa

Roma, coached by Portuguese José Mourinho, had one of their worst nights in recent times in Genoa on Thursday, being humiliated 4-1 in the sixth round of the Italian football competition.

The promoted Genoese did not feel sorry for the wolf team, they made good use of the mistakes of the opponent’s defense and could even have won by more.

The Romans drop to sixteenth place with five points, two of which are above the relegation line, while Genoa rises to eleventh place with seven points.

Mourinho lost the championship for the third time this season. Half of the matches the Portuguese ended in defeat, in the worst start ever for the Portuguese coach.

Rui Patrício was Roma’s goalkeeper and was surprised by Albert Gudmundsson’s shot after five minutes.

At the age of 22, Cristante equalized and it was believed that the visitors would fight for victory.

But Genoa took the lead again just before half-time, with a beautiful understanding between Gudmundsson and Morten Thorsby, supplemented by a ‘semi-volley’ from Mateo Retegui.

Roma then secured dominance in midfield, but left too much space in defence, which Thorsby (74) and Junior Messias (81) took advantage of to give the result ‘weight’.

The discomfort on the Roman side was very evident at the Luigi-Ferraris Stadium: Francesco Totti, legend of Roman football, present in the places of honor, left the stadium after the fourth goal of the locals.

Mourinho’s team is already 10 points behind leaders Inter and only two points above the relegation places.

In the other matches of the day there were draws: 0-0 in the reception of Monza (with Dany Mota) to Bologna, and 1-1 in the match between Frosinone and Fiorentina.
