Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton scored their first victory in the English Football League this Saturday, against Southampton (1-0), while Marco Silva’s Fulham lost at Tottenham (2-1) in a duel of London teams.
On matchday six, Chelsea struggled to beat West Ham at home (2-1), in another match between teams from the English capital, with Brentford leading the day’s win (5-2 at home against Leeds) and reassembled Bournemouth (3-2 at Nottingham Forest).
With seven Portuguese players on the field (José Sá, Matheus Nunes, João Moutinho, Rúben Neves, Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence started and Gonçalo Guedes was released in the second half), Bruno Lage was finally able to celebrate a victory in the Premier League, after a start with three draws and two losses.
In Molineux, Podence, in minute 45+1, scored the only goal of the match, assisted by his compatriot Matheus Nunes, who was named best outfield player.
Counting last season, this was Wolves’ first Premier League win in 13 games.
Bruno Lage is ‘breathing’ better now, with his team coming out of the relegation places and moving up to 14th place with six points, while Southampton are 12th with seven.
Another fate befell Marco Silva, with Fulham leaving Tottenham, Sporting’s rival this season in the Champions League, in a match in which João Palhinha started for the Portuguese coach’s team.
The Danish Hojbjerg, in the 40th minute, and the inevitable Harry Kane, in the 75th minute, scored the goals for the ‘Spurs’, who provisionally rose to second place, one point behind the leader and eternal rival Arsenal.
The Serbian Mitrovic still lowered, in the 83rd minute, and, in the final moments, he even came close to saving a point against Fulham, who follow him in 10th place with eight.
Also complicated was Chelsea’s victory over West Ham, with the ‘blues’ having to turn the score around and be ‘saved’ from the tie at the end by the video referee.
At Stamford Bridge, after a goalless first half, Jamaican international António gave West Ham the lead in the 62nd minute, but Chilwell equalized in the 76th minute and set up German Havertz in the 88th minute for the comeback.
The ‘Hammers’ still celebrated the tie in added time, in favor of the Ivorian Cornet, but the call was annulled due to the existence of a foul.
Chelsea is fifth with 10 points, while West Ham is 17th with four.
With a ‘hat-trick’ from Toney, Brentford applied the ‘five plate’ to Leeds, the number of goals that the ‘whites’ had conceded in the first five Premier League games.
In Nottingham, Forest were preparing to celebrate their second win since returning to the top flight, when they went 2-0 up at half-time, but Bournemouth turned the tables in the second half, with striker Solanke at the point of look, with a goal and a help
Newcastle, the ‘nouveau riche’ of the Premier League, thanks to the investment from Saudi Arabia, did not go from scratch in welcoming Crystal Palace.
