Former international goalkeeper Beto Pimparel considers, in statements to TSFPortugal’s participation as co-organizer of the 2030 World Cup increases “the motivation” of the Portuguese players, who will be able to feel up close “the support and warmth of the Portuguese.”
The former international highlights that the election of Portugal “confirms and rewards the organizational capacity” of this “small-big country.”
“We have shown more than demonstrations of organizational capacity in major sporting events and, in this centenary of the World Cup, the fact that Portugal is part of or co-organizes the hundredth World Cup is a reason for pride,” he argues, also stating that the team “has risen the bar in recent years.
The body that manages world football decided, in general council and unanimously, that the tournament starts in South America -Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay-, where the first round will be played, before traveling to Europe -Portugal and Spain- and even Africa , with matches in Morocco.
These last three teams “are automatically classified from the existing vacancies, after successfully completing” a process and decision by FIFA.
“Taking into account the historical context of the first World Cup, the FIFA Council also unanimously approved organizing a unique centenary celebration in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, where the first World Cup was held in 1930, as well as the celebration of matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, respectively,” reads the statement released this afternoon.
