Max Verstappen is a three-time Formula 1 world champion

Max Verstappen won his third consecutive Formula 1 world title this Saturday. His closest rival in the championship and Red Bull teammate, Sergio Pérez, crashed in the sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix.

The Dutchman, who needed just three points this weekend to be crowned champion, secured the title when Perez crashed in the 19-lap sprint race.

Max Verstappen, who started from third place on the grid, dropped to fifth position, but crossed the finish line 1.871 seconds behind the winner, the Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren), with the British Lando Norris (McLaren) in third position, 8,497.

With five races remaining in the championship, the Red Bull driver reached an unattainable 406 points, while the runner-up in the World, the Mexican Sérgio Pérez (Red Bull), was run over by the Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and finished with the same 223 points that he started with.
