The heat forecast places the Lisbon Marathon at 7:00 a.m. and the Meia Marathon at 9:00 a.m.

The Lisbon Marathon was brought forward one hour, to 7:00 a.m., and the Half Marathon an hour and a half, to 9:00 a.m., due to the forecast of heat in the Portuguese capital on Sunday, the Sábado organization reported.

Thus, the starting signal for the 10th edition of the Lisbon Marathon will be given at 07:00, in Cascais, while the first steps of the 23rd edition of the Portuguese Half Marathon and the eight kilometer race will be taken, in the bridge deck. It will be delivered at 09:00 hours.

“With this anticipation, the organization aims to protect participants from the hottest hours,” reads a statement from Marathon, the club that organizes the races.

The bus schedules for the bridge will also be brought forward, leaving the Vasco da Gama shopping center in Lisbon between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m., while the metro will increase the number of carriages, starting at 6:00 hours. am.

For the 42,195 kilometers, marathon runners can use the CP trains at 05:15, 05:30 and 06:00.

On Friday, the president of the Marathon Clube de Portugal, Carlos Móia, expressed his concern about the forecast of high temperatures, reinforcing the water supply along the course and eliminating the climb to Praça do Marquês de Pombal.

The finish line of the marathon and half marathon will be located at Praça do Comércio, in Lisbon, while the finish line of the popular race will be at Parque das Nações.

“In total, the Lisbon Marathon will have 13 service stations and three showers along the course. In addition to the water delivered at the start, the Half Marathon will have three showers and four service stations and the 8K race will have one station. at the end of the bridge, and two showers (common in half marathons)”, reads the organization’s statement.
