Euro 2024. Portugal continues to prepare for the duel with Slovakia

The Portuguese team continues this Tuesday preparing for Friday’s duel against Slovakia, which could confirm qualification for the Euro 2024 football championship, with new training sessions, after the absence of Ricardo Horta at the start of work.

Portugal has a session scheduled for 6:00 p.m., at the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, with the first 15 minutes of training open to the media.

On Monday, in the first training session in preparation for the match that could guarantee Portugal’s qualification for the European Championship in Germany, Ricardo Horta, from Sporting de Braga, was the only one absent, due to injury, in a session in which all 24 participated remaining players. The team members essentially did recovery work.

Highlight in this session was the presence of João Neves, Benfica midfielder, absolutely debutant in the national teams of coach Roberto Martínez and the Portuguese team.

Raphael Guerreiro was also included in the initial call-up, but the Bayern Munich full-back did not even join the national team’s work after being injured in training with the Germans.

Before training this Tuesday, at 5:15 p.m., also at the Cidade do Futebol, a player yet to be named will speak to journalists at a press conference.

Portugal faces Slovakia on Friday, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, at 7:45 p.m., and, in case of victory, automatically guarantees qualification for the final phase of the next European Championship. Three days later, on the 16th, the national team plays in Bosnia-Herzegovina, at 7:45 p.m. (Lisbon time).

After six days, the Portuguese team remains completely victorious and leads Group J with 18 points, five more than Slovakia, second classified. Luxembourg is third, with 10, followed by Bosnia and Iceland, both with six, and Liechtenstein, still without points.

In addition to six victories in the same number of games, Roberto Martínez’s team has a balance of 24 goals scored and none conceded.

In November, Portugal closes the qualifying round with a trip to Liechtenstein and welcomes Iceland.

The first two places in the group give direct access to the final phase of Euro2024.
