Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa was fired at Salernitana on Tuesday after a triumphless start to the season, the Italian football league team announced today.
According to the Salerno team, Paulo Sousa will be replaced by the Italian Filippo Inzaghi, without revealing the contract term.
After eight games, Salernitana occupies the 19th and penultimate place in Serie A, with only three points, the result of three draws and five defeats, with only one win, against Ternana, from the second division, in the Italian Cup.
Paulo Sousa, 53, arrived at Salernitana last season and recorded four wins in 16 games but saved the team from relegation.
The former midfielder, who started his coaching career with the youth squads of the Portuguese national teams, has played for the Polish national team in addition to Queens Park Rangers, Swansea, Leicester, Videoton, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Basel, Fiorentina, Tianjin Quanjian, Bordeaux and Flamengo.
