Portuguese Rugby Federation (FPR) president Carlos Amado da Silva confirmed on Tuesday that the name of the sport’s next selector will be announced next week, with only the remaining members of the technical team needing to be agreed.
Carlos Amado da Silva, who addressed the press at the arrival of the ‘Wolves’ in Portugal, after participating in the World Championship, which took place in France, guaranteed that the next leader of the technical team will be Gallic, to get the job done by Patrice Lagisque.
“Everything remains the same, with the same ambitions. It is already fixed. It will be announced next week. It will be French. I want it to continue. It is a kind of game that suits the Portuguese and most of our athletes play there.” He is a familiar name to me. The team is not yet complete. I’ll have to make some arrangements with him. I always wanted Patrice Lagisque to continue. He was the one who didn’t want that.”he claimed.
In a brief evaluation of the national team, Carlos Amado da Silva recalled that with three months of work ‘Portugal went from a draw with the United States to a difference of 40 points’.
“With preparation, with competent technical teams, as was the case, with dedicated players and a desire to learn, we can play with any team. In a very complicated series we can compete on an equal footing with any team. If the non- professionals get the conditions. Like others, we will go even further.”he assured.
In this sense, Amado da Silva was satisfied with the work of the ‘Wolves’ and believes that the team could do more if they had better working conditions.
“The team has now arrived here, but half of them have stayed in France. They are professionals and will continue to play at a very high level. And it is not like that here. (To evolve) they have to work under professional or semi-professional conditions. That they can play outside Portugal especially, to give the consistency that we have now, because we work with professionals. Let there be no doubt if we don’t go back.”he warned.
For the FPR leader, improvements to the high-performance center will be essential for the necessary growth.
“What has changed from the past? This is the first team to win a World Cup. Because if we had not won, we would be the second team in a World Cup. We are unique. To keep improving we have to conditions. Our high performance training center should be transformed into a rugby stadium, with a capacity for 10,000 people”he requested.
Amado da Silva took the opportunity to thank the Portuguese Football Federation for inviting the ‘Wolves’ to be present at the Estádio do Dragão where they will be honored during the match between Portugal and Slovakia, in the seventh round of group J of the qualifying phase for the European Championship.
