Portugal are one triumph away from qualifying for Euro 2024 and achieving the fastest qualification in national team history for a major competition. To do that, they need to beat Slovakia at the Estádio do Dragão on Friday, but the draw could even be enough to celebrate – if Luxembourg does not beat Iceland -, at a time when there are still four games to go to conclude the competition. Group J takes into account that Portugal leads with 18 points, five more than the Slovaks.
Roberto Martínez’s team has made a flawless journey towards the European Championship, which will be played in Germany next year, and has everything it takes to qualify in record time and without resorting to the ‘friendly’ calculator, read penultimate or last group stage match or play -off, as is customary to qualify for the World Cup or European Championship.
