The justice department of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) made official this Tuesday the sanction of the Italian midfielder Nicolò Fagioli, of Juventus, suspended for seven months for illegal betting, also having to pay a fine and undergo therapy.
“We have reached an agreement with Fagioli, after which he will be sanctioned with a 12-month suspension, five of which can be commuted to other forms of sanction, and a fine of 12,500 euros, for violating the regulations that prevent betting on organized football events. “. by the FIGC, UEFA and FIFA,” reads the federation statement.
The five months in which he will not serve his sentence are replaced by public appearances and other community work, in addition to a “therapeutic plan of at least six months duration” that he must comply with.
Fagioli was the first name to emerge in a scandal surrounding illegal betting that also has Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali under investigation, whose agent has already admitted he suffers from a gambling addiction.
Zaniolo, from Aston Villa, is also under the jurisdiction of sports justice, after being removed from the Italian national team concentration due to this situation, which also happened to Tonali.
Fagioli admitted to having bet on football matches, without participating in them, which is prohibited, to having collaborated and admitted to having a gambling addiction, now missing the entire season at Juventus.
