This Saturday, Sporting faces Olivais and Moscavide, from the Lisbon districts, on the third day of the Portuguese Football Cup, a day that marks the entry into the competition of the I Liga teams.
The ‘lions’, current leaders of the championship and who have already won the Portuguese Cup 17 times, will face the current sixth-placed team in the 1st district division of Lisbonin a match scheduled at the José Gomes Stadium, in Amadora.
To reach this stage, Olivais and Moscavide already eliminated Real Massamá (2-1), in the first round, and Sandinenses (3-1)In the second, both matches were played away from home and against higher level teams, in this case the Portuguese Championship.
The two teams already met in the quarterfinals of the competition in the 1994/95 season.with Sporting beating Olivais and Moscavide, 6-1, and advancing to win the final against Marítimo, 2-0.
Also today, Leixões, from the II League, receives Vitória de Setúbalof the Portuguese Championship, in a duel between two teams that already won the competition, but are now out of the main ‘stages’ of national football.
Another team that has already won the Portuguese Cup is Estela da Amadora, from the I Liga, which will visit Vila Meãof the Portuguese Championship, on a day in which 11 third round matches are played.
In addition to Sporting and Estrela da Amadora, the first division Moreirense, Vizela, Casa Pia and Arouca also debut today in the competitionwith visits to Paredes, Atlético, Rabo de Peixe and Felgueiras, respectively.
Sporting de Braga, Benfica, Portimonense and FC Porto are already classifiedwhich applied the ‘law of the strongest’ against lower category teams and will be present in the draw for the fourth day, scheduled for Wednesday, whose matches will be played on the weekend of November 25 and 26.
