Farense reported this Sunday that its fans were “savagely attacked” after the end of the third round match of the Portuguese Cup against Länk Vilaverdense, with two people needing hospital treatment.

The club from the city of Faro clarifies that the attacks, which it considered “deplorable, violent and cowardly”, “had no relationship with the match played or with the fans of Lank FC Vilaverdense.”

“Approximately half an hour after the end of the match and in the vicinity of the Cruz do Reguengo municipal stadium, a group of SC Farense fans, who were heading to the bus that would transport them back to Faro, were ambushed by a group of approximately 20 30 members, who identified themselves as belonging to a cheerleader, with their faces covered and armed with belts, sticks and other accessories who savagely attacked them,” the club said in a publication on the social network Facebook.

Farense states that the attack was already reported to “various authorities, including the GNR commander, present at the scene, who provided a competent report on the incident, initiating the investigation process.”

Highlighting that the club will also make “countless trips to clubs around the city of Braga”, Farense calls for “quick” action by the authorities, so that they identify and punish “the aggressors in an exemplary manner.” .

“The attacked fans were quickly assisted on the spot by medical emergency teams and with the support of the SC Farense medical team. After which two fans were taken to the hospital to carry out the necessary tests,” he added.

Länk Vilaverdense, from the II Liga, beat first division Farense 3-2 at home this Sunday and qualified for the fourth round of the Portuguese Football Cup.

Lénio (54 minutes), João Caiado (87) and Bruno Silva (90+1) scored the goals for the last classified of the II Liga, which reaches the fourth round of the Cup for the second consecutive time, with Talocha (90+3 ) and Bruno Duarte (90+8, penalty) to reduce.
