All blacks vs. Springboks. It is the biggest rivalry in rugby and the dream final for many fans of the sport. With three trophies each: New Zealand became champions in 1987, 2011 and 2015; South Africa in 1995, 2007 and 2019 – one of them will be crowned the first four-time world champion in history today in Paris. Sam Cane or Siya Kolisi will have the honor of receiving the Webb Ellis Trophy at the Stade de France (8 p.m., Sports TV).
The rivalry is purely sporting and stems from the fact that both want to show off the title of best team. It will be the sixth time they meet at the World Cup. The score is 3-2 for New Zealand, despite the historic final defeat at the 1995 World Cup. Hosted by South Africa shortly after the end of the Apartheid regime (1992) and the election of Nelson Mandela as president (1994), the Springboks’ title remains one of the strongest images in world sport.
