Sporting debuts in the League Cup to avoid Farense’s qualification

Sporting, runners-up last season, debuts this Thursday in the Football League Cup, in Alvalade, against Farense, who already has a win in Group C, trying to prevent the Algarve from qualifying.

The leader of the I Liga receives the Algarve emblem after the victory against Boavista (2-0), in Bessa, on Monday, for the championship, knowing in advance that a defeat today would mean “goodbye” to the League Cup . Farense defeated the Tondela secondary school (1-0).

The Algarve team leads the group, with three points, ahead of Sporting and Tondela, still with zero.

The match will take place at the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, starting at 8:15 p.m., with the refereeing of Gustavo Correia, from the Porto Football Association.

Benfica beat Arouca on Tuesday (2-0), in the second day of group B of the League Cup, and took an important step towards the ‘final four’ of the competition.

The winners of each group will advance in the competition and will face each other in the ‘final four’, again scheduled in Leiria, with semi-finals on January 23 and 24 and final on the 27th.
