The former coach of Futebol Clube do Porto, André Villa-Boas, requested this Monday that the General Assembly (GA) of FC Porto be postponed, understanding that “there are no conditions to make decisions.” SIC Notícias also reported on attacks by members inside the Dragão Arena.
“Unfortunately there are no conditions to make decisions in this extraordinary General Assembly, so I ask the president of the board of directors to reconsider his suspension and reschedule it for a suitable place and time so that all members of FC Porto can vote freely in the decision and in the proposal to change the statutes,” he appeals.
The extraordinary General Assembly of FC Porto, which deliberates on the new statutes of the club and which should have started at 9 p.m., at the Estádio do Dragão, was moved to the Dragão Arena pavilion, due to the large participation of members.

The meeting should have started at 9 p.m., but the large attendance prevented it from taking place in the Auditorium of the Estádio do Dragão. The meeting took place this Monday in the club’s pavilion, however, André Villas-Boas, who has already announced that he wants to run for the club’s presidency next year, criticizes the organization.
“Unfortunately today it is recorded [segunda-feira] the lack of organization of an extraordinary General Assembly to change the statutes. I want to thank all the members present here, especially those who feel very strongly about FC Porto and who were present and expected another organization. Taking into account the queues that extend to the VCI roundabout, it can be easily calculated that it is difficult for all members to register,” he points out.
Around three thousand people gathered in front of the Estádio do Dragão to attend the General Assembly of FC Porto.
Present in the queues were José Fernando Rio and Nuno Lobo, candidates defeated by Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa in the club’s last elections, in 2020, and the businessman promised that he will request the dismissal of the extraordinary General Assembly, which restarted at 10:30 p.m. .
The session takes place at the Dragão Arena, but several people have already left the place, after altercations in the stands, as demonstrated by several videos published on social networks and stories from some members who managed to enter.
The hypothetical adoption of electronic and postal voting, a minimum seniority of 15 years, instead of the current 10, to run for president or access to the right to vote after two uninterrupted years as a member are some of the changes being debated.
Prepared by the Superior Council, FC Porto’s advisory body, the document protects the maintenance of the majority of SAD’s share capital against a possible entry of new investors, also expanding the opening to do business between the heads of the governing bodies and the ‘ dragons’, as long as they safeguard the “clear interest of the club.”
Any modification of the statutes will require a two-thirds vote in favor for approval, coming into force the day after the publication of the public deed, which must be carried out within the following 30 days in the Commercial Registry.
