After the clashes at the beginning of the week, the Extraordinary General Assembly of FC Porto, rescheduled for next week, risks not taking place. This is because the statutory revision that would be voted on at this meeting could fail.
The information was advanced by Record and confirmed by TSF. The possibility of the document being withdrawn from the consideration of Porto members and that the current statutes be maintained until the Porto context is more favorable is being considered. For the statutory change to be approved, the proposal would have to be approved by 75% of the partners.
This proposal will be voted on next Monday, after this week’s Extraordinary General Assembly has been very busy. Firstly, the large attendance of members meant that the meeting, which was going to take place in an auditorium inside the Estádio do Dragão, had to be quickly moved to the Dragão Arena, the FC Porto pavilion.
This caused many members to queue for hours to get in and the General Assembly began with many of them outside the pavilion. And that’s when tempers became even more heated, as several partners confronted each other, resulting in physical attacks. Some supporters were removed from the premises, until the General Assembly Board ended up suspending the meeting and rescheduling it for next week.
The review of the statutes in question, prepared by the Superior Council (the club’s advisory body), foresees that the FC Porto elections, which are normally held in April, could now be held until June. In addition, it required members to have two years of uninterrupted senior membership or two years of uninterrupted membership interspersed, one in the senior category and one in the junior category, to be able to vote, that is, no 18-year-old could vote. vote in elections.
The president of the club, Pinto da Costa, spoke out against this revision of the statutes, who in the General Assembly on Monday stated that he was against the point that prevented 18-year-olds from voting and assumed that he had a commitment to the president. of the Council of the General Assembly, José Lourenço Pinto, so that next year’s elections will be held in April, although they could be held until June.
