The UEFA disciplinary committee will decide next Wednesday the 22nd whether the match between Benfica and Inter Milan, at the Estádio da Luz, will be played behind closed doors due to the throwing of flares by red fans during the match against Real Sociedad , in San Sebastián, to the stands where Spanish fans were.
The news was announced on Friday by the Italian newspaper Sports newspaperstating that there is a possibility that the match scheduled for November 29, counting for the 5th round of the group stage of the Champions League, will be played behind closed doors.
It should be noted that last season, during the quarter-final between Inter and Benfica, at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, a fan of the Italian club was actually injured by the throwing of torches by Benfica supporters. In this case, UEFA decided to fine the Reds 35,000 euros, with the additional punishment of banning the presence of their fans in the first away match of this season, which interestingly was also in Milan, with Inter.
Now, if the offense is repeated, it is quite possible that the punishment will be increased.
