Varandas criticizes FC Porto fans: “After 40 years, they woke up to life”

The president of Sporting, Frederico Varandas, stated this Friday that FC Porto fans “woke up to life” after 40 years, stating that the ‘dragons’ are hostages of “a praetorian guard.”

“I saw what everyone saw. I saw what the figures of the FC Porto universe said. I see that, after 40 years, they woke up to life. Those they have at home and those they have been deifying for decades,” he said, to his arrival at the 41st edition of Roars of Lion, which is being held today at Quinta do Paul, in Ortigosa, Leiria.

Frederico Varandas, who explained that he would speak about Sporting during the ceremony, commented on the extraordinary General Assembly (AG) of FC Porto, marked by clashes between partners, which led to the suspension of the main meeting.

“The club is hostage to a praetorian guard, but I think we must have the courage to say that this praetorian guard is not the real problem, but rather the one that fed them and gave them power for decades,” said Frederico Varandas.

The president of the ‘lions’ also defended that “whoever orders this Praetorian Guard to do this against rivals, referees, journalists, when necessary, also does it against their own members.”

“He has a name and appears in any Social Sciences manual,” said Varandas, refusing to answer if he was referring to Pinto da Costa, president of FC Porto.

The day after the General Assembly, the management of FC Porto condemned the lack of respect and guaranteed that it will use “the means at its disposal to identify those responsible for the physical attacks and will mobilize social organizations”, with a view to opening a disciplinary file. while the Public Ministry (MP) opened an investigation into the incidents recorded at the Dragão Arena.

On Thursday, the Superior Council withdrew the proposal to review the statutes of FC Porto, which should have been deliberated by the ‘dragons’ members on Monday.

The president of the Board of Directors of the General Assembly (MAG) of the ‘dragons’, José Lourenço Pinto, must now, as president of the MAG, complete the legal procedures to cancel the main meeting that had been postponed for next Monday.
