Inter Milan were interested in goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin in the summer transfer market, but Benfica ultimately won the race. However, the Ukrainian goalkeeper’s agent is not closing the door on a future transfer to the Italian giant.
“The Italian championship is one of the best in the world. If you want to grow, achieve goals and win trophies, you have to play for strong clubs and championships. There are many strong clubs in Italy, including Inter Milan. Everything we can… what God wants will happen,” Yuriy Danchenko said in an interview with the SportItalia channel.
The goalkeeper’s agent, who will feature for the Ukrainian national team in the Euro2024 qualifier against Italy next Monday, also confirmed that Inter were in the running for Trubin before the season started. “In terms of the negotiations for Trubin, Benfica was more persistent and convincing than Inter, and that is why Anatoliy and I made that decision,” he said.
Benfica secured the Ukrainian goalkeeper this summer and paid Shakhtar Donetsk 10 million euros (plus one million in variables). The deal also allowed the Ukrainian club to retain 40% of the added value in a future transfer. A detail that ultimately proved to be decisive in the negotiations, as Inter offered 12 million, but did not want to include this percentage of a future transfer in the deal.
Anatoliy Trubin, 22, has a contract with Benfica until 2028 and a release clause of 100 million euros. The player arrived in Luz to replace Odisseas Vlachodimos, who owned the goal for five years but eventually left for Nottingham Forest as those responsible for Benfica believed his cycle at the club had ended.
Benfica’s SAD, DN knows, has big hopes for Trubin and believes the Ukrainian goalkeeper could soon become one of the best in Europe. But it does not consider negotiating this in the short/medium term, especially since the profit from a possible transfer will always be subject to the clause that was included in the contract signed with Shakhtar, which is entitled to a capital gain of 40 % in a possible agreement..
AC Milan is thinking of Neves
Midfielder João Neves, 19 years old, was again mentioned by the Italian press on Monday to AC Milan, a club that wants to go to the market in January to secure a reinforcement for the midfield.
However, the interest of the Milanese is nothing more than that. This is because, as DN rightly reported, Benfica’s SAD has no intention of negotiating for a hard core player in the transfer market that will reopen in January. If someone leaves, it will always be for the value of the termination clause, which in the case of João Neves amounts to 120 million euros. And that is a priceless value for the team where Portuguese international Rafael Leão plays.
The young Benfica midfielder has also fueled the greed of Manchester United, a club with arguments to avoid the release clause. But it is unlikely that negotiations will take place before the end of the season.
