The president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, regretted this Tuesday the lack of respect produced in the club’s general assembly and explained why he did not intervene to calm the situation.
“It was not up to me. It is up to the president of the board of directors of the general assembly to do the job. When people get into trouble, it is not up to me to separate them, I am not a security guard,” said the Porto leader in an interview with SIC, revealing who thought the meeting should end there.
For the president of FC Porto, the problems started earlier: “Through social networks, people were encouraged to come in groups and film everything.”
Pinto da Costa regrets “everything that happened” and guarantees that “all measures have already been taken so that it does not happen again”, explaining that there are two investigations that can be appealed, one from the Public Ministry and another internal to the club: ” We have to wait”.
The president of FC Porto clarifies that the extraordinary general meeting had “an abnormal frequency” and had to be moved “to the pavilion” which was “the last opportunity.”
The Porto leader described the events: “I spoke calmly without being interrupted, I proposed voting against three articles and there was no problem. Miguel Brás Cunha and Hugo Nunes spoke without problems, and when Henrique, my friend, started, the problems began “
“It was a bad night. Every night that FC Porto does not win is a bad night. In terms of AG, I have seen many things. It was a bad night,” said the Porto leader, warning that for some “it was a bad night.” “.
Regarding the statutory change, Pinto da Costa reflects on the proposals, in particular the extension of the electoral deadline until June, explaining that he was against the change, as well as the change in the number of years of senior associate that a partner must have to vote . .
“I voted against and I even said that it made no sense to prevent someone who is 18 years old from voting for FC Porto when they can vote for PR. I voted against,” he reveals.
Asked about the possible renewal of Sérgio Conceição, Pinto da Costa asks: “Do you think any coach will commit without knowing who he will work with?”
The president of Porto clarifies that the management’s relationship with the Super Dragões, FC Porto’s fans, “is normal.”
Pinto da Costa describes the relationship he maintains with André Villas-Boas: “Since he left FC Porto, I have spoken to him three times…”
Pinto da Costa refused to confirm whether or not he will be a candidate in the Porto elections scheduled for April, but he made a promise beforehand: “The objective is to present positive accounts and positive assets in December.”
“The equity and negative accounts that were presented were calculated in such a way that in December the accounts would be positive and the equity, if not positive, would be close to that,” he adds.
The Porto leader guarantees that Porto’s objectives are also sporting and criticizes Benfica: “Others sold players, received money and how many points do they have in the Champions League? It is not worth counting them, because they are zero.”
Pinto da Costa reveals that several investments are emerging in the club that will yield money in the future, giving the example of the agreement signed with a North American company “that will carry out interventions in the Estádio do Dragão” and that also paid the club and will withdraw dividends from the exploration of spaces within the stadium. The name of the venue was omitted, which, according to the president of FC Porto, will be worth between five and six million euros for the dragons.
Asked if investors are expected to enter FC Porto’s SAD, Pinto da Costa is categorical: “At the moment, no (…) I have already guaranteed that FC Porto will never lose the majority of the SAD.”
In the end, the president of FC Porto responded to Frederico Varandas. “I was very happy to see that a president of a rival club is very interested in my departure. It’s a medal for me,” he said.
