Brazilian footballer Rodrygo revealed on Thursday evening that he had been the victim of racist attacks on social media, two days after playing in Brazil’s home defeat to Argentina.
“Racists are always on duty. My social networks were flooded with insults and all kinds of nonsense!”, wrote the social networks X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram the striker who plays for the Spanish Real Madrid.

According to Brazilian sports news portal Globo Esporte, the 22-year-old player is considering filing a criminal complaint after being flooded with banana and monkey “emojis” on social media.
“If we don’t do what they want, if we don’t behave the way they think we should, if we wear something that bothers them, if we don’t lower our heads when we’re attacked, if we occupy spaces where they think they are alone, racists are taking action with his criminal behavior,” Rodrygo complained.
‘Bad luck for them. We will not stop!’ the attacker assured.
Rodrygo played the entire match against Argentina, which they won 0-1 in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, the first-ever home defeat for the Canarinhos in World Cup qualifying.
The striker had heated arguments with Argentinians Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul during the match, with the start of the match being delayed by almost half an hour due to clashes between fans and police officers in the stands.
After publication, Rodrygo received solidarity from several teammates from the Brazilian team, including Neymar and Vinicius Jr., himself a regular target of racist attacks in Spain, where he also plays for Real Madrid.
Neymar and Vinicius Jr. were absent due to injury during the “superclásico” against Argentina, at the Maracanã Stadium, which counted for the South American qualifying zone for the 2026 World Cup.
