Round of 16 matches of the Portuguese Cup drawn this Wednesday

The round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup will be defined this Wednesday, in a draw that will feature nine teams from the I League, six from the II League and one from the Portuguese Championship.

FC Porto, winner of the last two editions, the champion Benfica, trophy record holder, Sporting, Sporting de Braga and five other teams from the I Liga are part of the draw that will be held today at the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras , at 18:00.

Amarante, which competes in Serie B of the Portuguese Championship, the fourth division, is the only team outside of professional competitions to reach this stage of the competition, in a campaign in which it has already eliminated Sertanense, Acadómica and in the round before Paredes. .

In the previous round of the Portuguese Cup, five teams from the I Liga ‘fell’, but only one of them in a duel with a team from the lower category, Casa Pia being eliminated by Nacional, from the II Liga, in a penalty miss.

Estrela da Amadora, Portimonense, Famalicão and Boavista were defeated in matches between top category teams, being defeated by Vizela, Sporting de Braga, Benfica and Arouca, respectively.

In addition to Nacional, the II Liga is represented in the ‘octava’ by Marítimo, Penafiel, Santa Clara, União de Leiria and Tondela.

The round of 16 matches of the Portuguese Cup are scheduled for January 9, 10 and 11, 2024.

Teams qualified for the round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup:

– I Liga (9): Vizela, FC Porto, Gil Vicente, Sporting de Braga, Vitória de Guimarães, Benfica, Estoril Praia, Sporting and Arouca.

– II League (6): National, Marítimo, Penafiel, Santa Clara, União de Leiria and Tondela.

– Portuguese Championship (1): Amarante.
