Villas-Boas will officially run for president in January

André Villas-Boas took over in the early hours of Thursday, after leaving the General Assembly of FC Porto to approve the club’s accounts, which will see the candidacy for the presidency of the blue and white emblem in January 2024 formalize.

The former FC Porto coach also highlighted the positive way in which the General Assembly (AG) took place.

“It is an AGM that marks the history of FC Porto, for its positivity, open criticism and the right to expression. May this be the support and a reference for a General Assembly for the future. This is what all partners want and that was what all partners felt,” he stated.

FC Porto’s bills were approved with 52.3% of the votes in favor and André Villas-Boas voting against. Yet the former coach argued that “FC Porto came out on top”.

“It ended in the early morning hours, but with a sense of good portism, presence and free democratic expression. I think FC Porto will win from this meeting, especially thanks to the democracy of this AG,” he added.

Turning to the accounts, Villas-Boas spoke of the “operational failure that needs to be corrected” at FC Porto.

‘There is an accumulation of debts. The numbers speak for themselves and don’t lie. The accumulated amount is 499 million and has grown over the years. Management has shown a sense of trying to improve things as quickly as possible. an agreement that will be revealed at this time by the current management. Part of the capital injection and valuation of one of the group’s companies, for the requalification of FC Porto’s own capital. This will be the move that management will implement until December 31st. An operational fault that needs to be corrected. Management is aware of this and has shown signs of wanting to improve in this aspect,” he also said.

Regarding the upcoming candidacy for the presidency of FC Porto, André Villas-Boas guaranteed that he would make progress in January next year.

“Pinto da Costa is the president of the presidents of FC Porto. I remain convinced to advance to the elections and, as I said recently, the presentation of a candidacy is only a formality. The ‘timings’ of the presentation of be a candidacy only I correspond with me. This will happen in January,” he revealed.
