Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal will return to competition at the tournament in Brisbane, Australia, in early January 2024 after almost a year of absence due to physical problems, the former world number one announced on Friday.
The 37-year-old Nadal has not played since being knocked out in the second round of the Australian Open in mid-January and will now return to competition in one of the preparation tournaments for the first Grand Slam of the season.
“Hello everyone, after a year away from the competition it’s time to return. It will be in Brisbane and it will be in the first week of January. See you there.”he said in a message published on social media.

On June 2, just a few days before he turned 37, Nadal underwent surgery on his left leg in Barcelona to relieve the injury he had suffered since the Australian Open.
That injury forced him to miss the last three Grand Slam tournaments of the season, including Roland Garros in Paris, where he won 14 of his 22 major titles.
