Rafael Nadal returns to competition in January after almost a year of absence

The Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal will return to competition at the tournament in Brisbane, Australia, at the beginning of January 2024, after almost a year of absence due to physical problems, the former world number one announced this Friday.

Nadal, 37, has not played since he was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open in mid-January and now returns to competition in one of the preparation tournaments for the first Grand Slam of the season.

“Hello everyone, after a year away from the competition, the time has come to return. It will be in Brisbane and it will be in the first week of January. See you there,” he said, in a message published on social networks. .

On June 2, just a few days before his 37th birthday, Nadal underwent surgery on his left leg in Barcelona to relieve the injury that had affected him since the Australian Open.

That injury forced him to miss the final three Grand Slam tournaments of the season, including Roland Garros in Paris, where he won 14 of his 22 major titles.
