Italian Antonio ‘Totonno’ Juliano, historic former Naples player, European football champion with Italy and one of those responsible for signing Argentinian Diego Armando Maradona, has died at the age of 80, the Neapolitan club announced on Thursday.

Juliano played for the Neapolitan club for 17 years (1961 to 1978), including 12 years as team captain, with a total of 394 games played and 24 goals scored. He also played a season with Bologna before ending his career in 1978/79.

With the Naples team he won two Italian Cups (1962 and 1976) and with the Italian national team he played 18 matches, won the 1968 European Championship and came second in the world rankings in 1970, in Mexico, where Italy was defeated. in the Brazil final.

After ending his career as a professional, Antonio Juliano became part of Nápoles’ management structure and took part in the signing of Argentine Diego Maradona in 1984.
