Mozambican international footballer Geny Catamo renewed his contract with Sporting until June 30, 2028, with a termination clause of 60 million euros (ME), the club announced this Friday.
Geny Catamo, 22 years old, arrived at the Lisbon club in 2018/19, from Amora, who had signed him from the Mozambican Black Bulls, having also worn the shirts of Vitória de Guimarães and Marítimo, in both cases on loan from Lions. .
“I am very happy that they have confidence in me. It is difficult for words to come out because I am very happy,” said Geny Catamo, who has been used by the Sporting coach as a full-back or right-back.
The Lions player was also called up today for the African Football Cup of Nations (CAN2023), which will be held in Ivory Coast, between January 13 and February 11, by the Mozambican coach, Chiquinho Conde.
After signing a new contract with Sporting, in a season in which he had already scored two goals in the 18 games he played, he assumed responsibility: “I feel very proud. I have continued to grow with my teammates and now we have to be focused on what the lord [Rúben Amorim] ask for it, to continue being happy too.”
According to the sports press, Amora, currently in League 3, held 75% of the economic rights of the Mozambican player, who had a contract with Sporting until the end of the 2024/25 season and a clause of 45 ME.
