The Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) opened disciplinary proceedings against Benfica on Thursday following the stabbing of a fan in the match with AVS, a source connected to the process told Lusa.
During the League Cup group stage match, played at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, a fan was slightly injured after being stabbed in one of the stands of the stadium, during half-time of the match that the ‘reds’ won 4-1 .
According to Article 182 of the disciplinary regulations of the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP), serious attacks on spectators and other participants could result in the Reds being punished for up to two matches behind closed doors.
“The club whose member or supporter, especially in collective or organized form, physically attacks a spectator, member of the media or any person present within the boundaries of the sporting venue, before, during or after the match, to cause injury to special persons. seriousness, either due to its nature or due to the duration of the incapacity for work, is punishable by the penalty of playing games behind closed doors, to be determined between a minimum of one and a maximum of two games, and in addition with the penalty of a fine of a fixed amount between at least 25 UC [unidades de conta] and maximum 100 UC”refers to point one of the article.
Point two emphasizes that if the aggression does not result in a “particularly serious injury”, the club will only be punished with a fine.
Also this Thursday, the FPF CD decided to archive the cases against the coach of FC Porto, Sérgio Conceição, and the sporting director of Sporting, Hugo Viana.
The FPF CD had announced that it was awaiting clarification regarding the disagreement between Sérgio Conceição and Hugo Viana at the end of the classic between Sporting and FC Porto, regarding the 14th round of the I League, which the ‘lions’ won 2-0.
